The Portsmouth Museums welcomes homeschool groups to utilize the museums for student learning.
Admission to the Children’s Museum of Virginia is $11 for adults (age 18 and older) and $10 for children (age 2-17). Discounts of $1 off admission per person is available for U.S. military families and AAA members. Other visitation specials include $5 Wednesday, Museums for All, and Bank of America’s “Museums on Us”.
Planetarium shows are offered every day, and they are included with your museum admission. The Beazley Planetarium transports you to distant worlds in our immersive theater with digital full-dome projection. Explore the wonders of the universe or find inspiration in our starry skies.
S.T.E.M. Studio is available to everyone! Come by for activities that are hands-on and appropriate for the entire family to do together. A different activity related to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concept is offered each week. S.T.E.M. Studio is open every Saturdays from 12:30-4:30 p.m., and activities are included with museum admission.
Organized homeschool groups and co-ops of 15 persons or more are eligible for a discounted group rate with advance registration. Groups may just choose a 2-hour self-guided visit for $7 per student, or they can add an educational program or a planetarium program for just $1 more. Beazley Planetarium programs can also be reserved as a planetarium only visit for $4 per student.
Scavenger hunts and educational resources are available for your use to compliment your visit to the Children’s Museum of Virginia.
Be sure to visit the other Portsmouth Museums for exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and more related to local and national artists, the history of Portsmouth, and our local shipyard, and the historical library museum. Links to their websites can be found below.
