WHAT’S HAPPENING

2022 Summer Camps

The Children’s Museum of Virginia will offer several in-person specialty camps this summer. We have something for everyone, from space and art to pirates and inventions. Campers can sign up for a half-day session or both morning and afternoon sessions for a full day camp (9am- 4 pm, campers bring their own lunch and lunch supervision and museum exploration provided.)

The registration deadline is two (2) weeks prior to camp’s starting date. Campers must meet (but not exceed) the age requirement listed.

Rising 1st – 2nd Graders

Space Quest

June 27 – July 1

9am – 12pm

Explore the science of Earth and space through experiments, games, and demonstrations. We will visit our planetarium, explore constellations, and learn about the compositions of other planets as we delve into the mysteries of our galaxy and beyond.

Crack the Code

June 27 – July 1

1pm – 4pm

Investigate the world through the eyes of spies and detectives. Learn how to write and decode cyphers and codes, how to distract from your spy work, and learn about past spies and their secrets through experiments and secret missions.

Wild Art

July 18 – 22

9am -12pm

In this environmentally-inspired camp, campers will interact with nature through hands on activities and create art projects inspired by the patterns, colors and animals found in nature.

Transportation Station

July 18 – 22

1pm – 4pm

This week is a hustle and bustle of activity as we explore transportation; Trucks, Trains, Ships and More! Visit the Lightship Portsmouth, learn about forces & motion, and create some trucks, trains, and ships.

Rising 3rd – 5th Graders

A Pirates Life For Me!

June 20 – 24

9am – 12pm

Argh! Did you know that pirates roamed local waters for nearly 200 years? Come aboard and join our misfit crew for a fun filled hands-on camp exploring the pirate life through crafts, games, and STEM activities. Adventure awaits…

Inventors STEM Camp

June 20 – 24

1pm – 4 pm

Discover the thrill of invention. Learn about famous inventors while planning, building and testing working inventions. Spend a week immersed in STEM – engineering and problem solving challenges. Inspiration for some activities and experiments come from well-known inventors like Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell.

Time Travelers

July 11 – 15

9am – 12pm

Campers go way back in time to explore history and art using all of their senses. Be immersed and get hands-on with architecture, performing and visual arts, photography and other art forms.

Building Fun LEGOs

July 11 – 15

1pm – 4 pm

Let your imagination run wild with LEGO! Build engineer-designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars, and use special pieces to create your own unique design. Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO building system.
