The Beazley Planetarium offers a rather extensive catalog of full dome features that can be the central focus of your visit. We offer titles dealing with various topics like volcanoes, dinosaurs, Earth history, mythology, space travel and technology as well as offerings from the Magic Treehouse book series. CLIMATE IN A CHANGING WORLD – SCIENCE: 3.4, 3.9 | 4.6 | 6.6 | 6.7 | 6.8
Explore the inner workings of the Earth’s climate system. This presentation uses visualizations based on satellite monitoring data as well as supercomputer simulation to track the energy flow from the sun into the systems that shape our climate. Ride on swirling ocean currents, dive into the heart of a monster hurricane, even come face to face with sharks and whales. Later, study climate factors on our giant Layered Earth application.
SOLAR SYSTEM SECRETS – SCIENCE: 3.9, 4.7, 6.8
Our robotic tour guide Toggle wants to whisk you off on a whirlwind tour of the solar system. Get up close and personal with the planets, moons, asteroids, comets and the Sun. Later explore the relative sizes of the planets in our scale model of the solar system and learn why Pluto is not a planet anymore.
CATCH A STAR – SCIENCE: ES 13
Every star has a story! Some are as old as time, faint almost forgotten. Others burn bright and end their lives in spectacular ways. Come journey through the universe on a survey of the stars. Think our Sun is an average star? Think again! Learn about the true sizes of stars as well as the relationship between temperature, color and brightness of the stars.

Join Big Bird and his friends on an exciting discovery of the Sun, Moon, stars and constellations. Stick around and our staff will take you on a tour of the current night sky to see if you can identify the Big Dipper and the North Star.

Our friendly star “Sunshine” loves to count, sing and play! Sunshine wants to teach our very youngest guests about colors, near and far, shadows! Later our staff will take guests on an amazing tour of the current sky to locate all of Sunshine’s brothers and sisters.

For thousands of years, Africans have used their knowledge of the sky to build their societies, shape their spiritual lives and meet their physical needs for survival. This presentation highlights the diversity of African astronomy, examines cultural uses of the sky and celebrates our shared human experience. Analyze the celestial clues hidden within the Follow the Drinking Gourd folk song first published in 1928. This song supposedly used by the Underground Railroad offered hope to a people in an escape to freedom.
