Accessibility & Inclusivity
The Portsmouth Museumsinvites children with special needs and their familiesto enjoy a morning of their very own. We’ll open the museum early for visitors to explore the exhibits, make it/take it arts & crafts, and more! The cost is $5 per person and 1 caregiver admitted for free. Special Day for Special Needs is currently held four times per calendar year.
Mobility Needs
- Both floors of the museum are accessible via elevator.
- Beazley Planetarium has two accessible seating space available on a first-come first-serve basis.
- A limited number of wheelchairs are available to check-out at the Admission Desk on a firstcome-first-serve basis.

Visual Needs
Many of the exhibitsin the museum have tactile componentsto allow individuals with visual impairmentsthe opportunity to participate and interact.
Hearing Needs
Signage is available around the museum explaining the exhibitsto enhance participation of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Service Animals
Qualified service animals as defined under ADA Title II and Title III are always welcome in the Children’s Museum of Virginia.
Additional Information
Family restrooms are located on both the first and second floor of the museum. Mothers are welcome to nurse anywhere throughout the museum, but if you would prefer privacy there is a nursing room available in Tot Yard.
