Homeschool Day – September 22nd

The museum is dedicating an autumn day to homeschool families. Education activities, demonstrations and special guests will be available for multiple ages throughout the event.


The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame presents a “Math Academy” at the Children’s Museum.

Grades K-2: 10:00-10:50 am | Grades 3-5: 11:00-11:50 am | Grades 6+:Noon-12:50


Skeeters, Germs and Diseases | 10:15 am

Relive the history of the yellow fever epidemic in Portsmouth in 1855. Explore germ theory and discover how changes in technology affected treatments. This interactive discussion is designed for middle and highs school students.

STEM Studio Drop in | 10:30-11:30 am

Stop by STEM Studio to play UMIGO math games. For ages prek-2nd grade.

Art Explorers | 11:30 am

Journey to another country and create art using their traditional techniques.

STEM Studio Workshops | 12:30pm and 1:30 pm

Create a buzz, beep or flash connecting circuits using Little Bits technology. Fun for 2nd grade and up.

Sounding Out! | 1:30 pm

Make some noise and explore the science of sound. Fun for all ages.
