The Portsmouth Museums welcomes homeschool groups to utilize the museums for student learning. Inquire about a reservation in advance to be eligible for our discounted group rate at the Children’s Museum of Virginia. Other visitation specials are also available and include our own “Whoopee Wednesday,” “Museums For All” and Bank of America’s “Museums On Us.” Check it out!

The Beazley Planetarium transports you to distant worlds in our immersive theater with digital full-dome projection. Explore the wonders of the universe or find inspiration in our starry skies. Check out the schedule of shows here and drop in for a public show which is included with museum general admission. The Beazley Planetarium offers a rather extensive catalog of full dome features that can be the central focus of your visitor. Please call to request your personalized visit.
S.T.E.M. Studio is available to everyone! Come by for activities that are hands-on and appropriate for the entire family to do together. Each week will feature a different activity related to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concept. Studio hours are Saturdays, 12:30- 4:30 p.m. and activities are included with museum admission.
Various classes and workshops are available throughout the year. Smorgasbord Saturdays and S.T.E.M. Club are offered as fall and winter/spring sessions and are offered to 3-5 year olds and 6-9 year olds. Click here for more info.
Boy and Girl Scout workshops offer the opportunity to earn a range of badges in a fun and creative environment led by a Museum Educator. With weekend and evening workshops, there is a Scout workshop to fit any busy work or school schedule. Sign your troop up and let your Scouts discover an exciting new skill or talent in science. Join us for our special Homeschool Day in the fall to participate in hands-on educational programs with other homeschool families. Activities include workshops, demonstrations, sample classes and educational games.
